Facebook and Social Media… the Modern Water Cooler Conversation?

We’ve all done it before. A few co-workers, huddled in the quiet corner of the office, letting loose on bosses or some new company policy we just don’t like. It’s certainly a common occurrence in many environments (not a good thing mind you).

Now, as new ways to express ourselves and share experiences have developed like Facebook & Twitter, these pseudo-private conversations now can be quite public and embarrassing for businesses and employees alike. Given this situation the question comes about naturally enough… Is it legal to trash your boss or company in the social media environment? People have been fired for just such actions but the law is still emerging, it isn’t a cut and dry answer, yet.

Have a look at a very interesting article discussing this very topic put out by The Nonprofit Quarterly and enjoy the comments of our own Kent Mannis, Managing Editor for LawRoom.com.

This is such an interesting and current topic we’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Feel free to post comments and opinions on this emerging HR challenge.
