It seems that workplace romances are becoming more and more common these days, bucking an old cardinal rule of never dating anyone at work. It makes sense that it would happen, given the 60+ hour weeks many people are putting in and the social nature of today’s more casual office environment.
Even though it may be understandable, these relationships can be tricky and lead to serious morale problems at work. Claims of favoritism can arise, dueling ex’s can lead to office tension, accusations of retaliation in downsizing can occur and departments may have to be re-shuffled to accommodate couples in the organization.
